Setting Up Monitoring

[!TIP] Save frequently-checked competitors to track them automatically!

To enable weekly monitoring:

  1. Analyze a competitor domain
  2. The system automatically saves it to your profile
  3. Every week, iSquared scans the domain and emails you if major changes occur

Strategic Use Cases

1. Keyword Gap Analysis

Discover profitable keywords your competitors rank for that you don't:

  • Analyze your top 3 competitors
  • Identify common keywords across all three
  • Create content targeting those "low-hanging fruit" keywords

2. Content Strategy Insights

See what's working for competitors:

  • Review their top-ranking keywords
  • Check which topics drive the most traffic
  • Build better content on the same topics

3. Niche Validation

Before launching a new business or content vertical:

  • Analyze established players in that niche
  • Estimate monthly traffic potential
  • Calculate ROI based on traffic value data

4. Competitive Benchmarking

Track your progress against competitors:

  • Run monthly comparisons
  • Measure if you're closing the gap
  • Adjust strategy based on competitor movements

Data Source

All competitor intelligence is powered by DataForSEO, a professional SEO data provider used by agencies worldwide.

Accuracy & Freshness:

  • Search data: Updated weekly
  • Traffic estimates: Based on Google Search Console-verified algorithms
  • Keyword data: Scraped from live Google results

[!IMPORTANT] Each competitor analysis consumes one DataForSEO credit and is logged to your monthly billing.

Weekly Monitoring System

How Auto-Monitoring Works

When you analyze a domain, it's automatically saved to isquared_comp_1 in your user metadata. The Hub runs a weekly cron job that:

  1. Fetches fresh data for all saved competitor domains
  2. Compares metrics to the previous week's snapshot
  3. Sends alerts if traffic value increased by 20%+
  4. Logs usage for billing purposes

Sample Alert Email

Subject: Competitor Alert

Body:

competitorsite.com increased their SEO Traffic Value by 34%!

Login to your dashboard to see what changed.

Feature Gating

[!WARNING] This feature requires a plan that includes Competitor Spy access. Starter plans may not include this feature.

Check your plan details in Settings → License to confirm access.

Best Practices

Do's:

Monitor 2-3 direct competitors regularly
Track your own domain to benchmark your growth
Act on alerts quickly when competitors make big moves
Cross-reference with Google Ads data to validate keyword value

Don'ts:

Don't analyze 100+ domains (wastes credits and is overwhelming)
Don't obsess over daily changes (SEO data updates weekly)
Don't copy competitors exactly (differentiate instead)

Troubleshooting

"No data found" error?

Common Causes:

  • Domain is brand new (less than 6 months old)
  • Very low traffic site (under 100 visitors/month)
  • Recently migrated domain or rebrand
  • Typo in the domain name

Solutions:

  • Verify the domain is spelled correctly
  • Try adding www. or removing it
  • Wait 1-2 weeks if it's a new domain
  • Check if they changed domain names recently

Analysis taking too long?

The DataForSEO API can take 10-30 seconds to return data. If it times out:

  • Refresh the page and try again
  • Check your internet connection
  • Verify your Hub license is active

Integration with Other Features

Used By:

  • Google Ads Manager: Analyzes competitors when launching zero-touch campaigns
  • SEO Audit: Compares your site metrics to competitor benchmarks
  • Content Engine: Suggests topics based on competitor keyword gaps

[!TIP] Pro Strategy: Export your competitor's top keywords (from SEO tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush) and feed them into the Content Studio to auto-generate blog posts targeting those exact terms!
